May you be turned inside out
upside down
and outside in

May your masks be masked
and your inside unmasked
May your countenance shine from within
as you meet yourself face to face

May your masquerade no longer be needed
as the shrouds fade away

May your child smile and dance
as the facade is lifted

May you just be

I think I saw the doctor for all of five minutes if that. He came in, I rolled up my pants, and he moved my knee one way- a bit of pain. Then he pressed on the outside meniscus, I yelped, and he said "now we're getting somewhere" and scheduled an MRI. So yeah, MRI scheduled for tomorrow (during work unfortunately) and then meet with ortho on march 24 to discuss it (since that's his earliest available). I like him though.

That makes 4 appointments for me tomorrow. Win?

The combo of being up since 2am and having my knee pressed in the wrong way has made me grumpy. At least there should be leftover hamantaschen at work today.

Also, doc is a monty python fan and grinned at the "I am not dead yet" tshirt.

on creation

I've forgotten how much I like making things. Or rather, the only way I've expressed it mostly over the past few months has been through baking for Anglican Reading group. Until this weekend, when I had to make a quilt (well, it was going to be three quilts, but I forgot just how long making a quilt start to finish takes). I love going into fabric stores and choosing fabrics, and then the moment when inspiration hits and you realize how to pick & piece fabrics together and the concept coalesces in your brain. And then the execution. Watching the different fabrics come together into a finished product. [livejournal.com profile] bkworm1 has been indispensible help this weekend - accompanying me all over Eastern Mass. to various quilt shops and offering advice & suggestions & generally being my sounding board. And of course, pressing & pinning and being my assistant when we got to the hardcore working part. She's got the suffolk affiliation, so it works that's she's helping make the Unity Week quilt for Suffolk University. We've put in close to 20 hours yesterday and today just working on the quilt and then an additional 6 on Friday just hitting shops for fabric and such - if only I could put in that kind of time/effort/energy into my homework.

The quilt is done except for the binding, which I'll do tomorrow morning. The intend is that the Suffolk community will write their hopes / wishes for Unity Week on the quilt. The quilt is not perfect, it came out a bit skewed, but overall, it's kind of neat.

In other news, I put in 32.5hours last week. And I've already put in 11.5 for this week today alone.. And since it's unity week, I'll probably put in an additional  15-20 this week. I think this makes me certifiable. Especially with five classes and a take home midterm on Thursday. And somebody's birthday this week. *smirks evilly*

I managed to wake up early (5:45 instead of 5:00 but not bad), took a final look at my sermon before printing it an then attacked my lecture outline. Managed to get that done early enough so that I had time to make a peanut butter sandwich for myself today. Read some augustine on the bus so i felt productive. Make it to class early only to find out that the response paper I thought was due tomorrow is actually due today at 5pm in hard copy. Yeah, there's no way that can happen. I'm at work on ashes duty until 5:30. And I preach at noon and then lecture at 1pm.

And here I thought I was doing so well in attempting to be productive. Also, the third response paper for this class has just been turned into a group project. I'm seriously considering dropping the class. Sigh.

Now off to get everything ready for the ash Wednesday service and read through my sermon a few more times.

In case you want to read it, I've uploaded a copy of my sermon here.

NH etc

We made it to NH safe and sound. The location is beautiful and there's already been lots of good stuff for me here.

Transgender identity has already caused one little hiccup in terms of sleeping arrangements but graças a Deus (and the intervention of Ben) it all got sorted out in a way that keeps everyone happy.

The knee is well, painful, so I'm using crutches for the weekend in hopes of giving it some time to rest and heal.

Now for some journalling and then drugs and bed.

Saw Fiddler on the Roof today at PPAC. Fabulous show. Seeing Chaim Topol was kind of amazing. For a 75 year old, he still has the voice to do Teyva. He also added a lot of emotional depth to the role. I cried through most of Act two, but then I've always been a sap for a good show. [livejournal.com profile] bad_influence's mum was commenting that tragedies tend to make better musicals. After the show we went to Texas Roadhouse. Ordered ribs & pulled pork, but was full from the salad, so took my meal home. In RI for the night. Heading back up to Boston tomorrow.

There was more I was going to write, but it's left my head.

new recipes :)

Saturday, 14 February 2009 21:16
jagienka: (cooking prep)
Normally when I make rack of lamb it's just a tossed together marinade of orange juice, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and then a combo of spices. Since our aerogarden has been sprouting herbs like weeds I did a quick search for fresh mint recipes with lamb. Found a Cumin, Honey & Mint Lamb Chops recipe that I took and modified. No cumin in the house, so substituted curry and the flavor combo worked really well. The honey just added that delicate sweetness that was delicious. This might be part of my staple recipe bag. Served the rack of lamb with couscous and caprese salad. After all, even single people deserve fancy dinners on valentine's day.

The week's been insanely busy, and the semester shows no signs of slowing down. I think I'll survive though.
