on creation

I've forgotten how much I like making things. Or rather, the only way I've expressed it mostly over the past few months has been through baking for Anglican Reading group. Until this weekend, when I had to make a quilt (well, it was going to be three quilts, but I forgot just how long making a quilt start to finish takes). I love going into fabric stores and choosing fabrics, and then the moment when inspiration hits and you realize how to pick & piece fabrics together and the concept coalesces in your brain. And then the execution. Watching the different fabrics come together into a finished product. [livejournal.com profile] bkworm1 has been indispensible help this weekend - accompanying me all over Eastern Mass. to various quilt shops and offering advice & suggestions & generally being my sounding board. And of course, pressing & pinning and being my assistant when we got to the hardcore working part. She's got the suffolk affiliation, so it works that's she's helping make the Unity Week quilt for Suffolk University. We've put in close to 20 hours yesterday and today just working on the quilt and then an additional 6 on Friday just hitting shops for fabric and such - if only I could put in that kind of time/effort/energy into my homework.

The quilt is done except for the binding, which I'll do tomorrow morning. The intend is that the Suffolk community will write their hopes / wishes for Unity Week on the quilt. The quilt is not perfect, it came out a bit skewed, but overall, it's kind of neat.

In other news, I put in 32.5hours last week. And I've already put in 11.5 for this week today alone.. And since it's unity week, I'll probably put in an additional  15-20 this week. I think this makes me certifiable. Especially with five classes and a take home midterm on Thursday. And somebody's birthday this week. *smirks evilly*
