So, I admit, I went to bed before McCain's concession speech and before the results were announced. Between watching the guy get hit on the street and everything else, I was an emotional wreck and just needed to sleep. Unfortunately, I did send a distressed email yesterday that I wish I could unsend, but ah well.
I was incredibly amused yesterday by the contrast/juxtaposition of status messages on facebook between my US friends - all election, all the time - and my British friends - all bonfires & fireworks for Guy Fawkes. It's ironic that it coincided. I did tell one of them, that if we had the same kind of election fiasco as four years ago, I might go all Guy Fawkes on the U.S. (And
bingblot agreed to join me). However, I still think it's important to
( Remember, Remember the fifth of November )It was wonderful, however, to wake up and watch the CNN page. I am thrilled about President-elect Obama. I am in joyful disbelief and glad to be part of this democratic process (even if the electoral college system needs to be revamped). McCain was gracious and Obama was inspiring and captivating as always. I'm proud to have grown up in Illinois.
I think one of my favorite bits of Obama's speech (apart from him quoting Lincoln) was when he was thanking his family and said to his daughters "...I love you both, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the white house."
It's silly, but it'll be good to have young kids in the white house again. I'm hopeful for the next four years.
