jagienka: (rainy days)
Spent mother's day in RI with parentals 2.0. My strawberry rhubarb pie went over well (which was good since I had to doctor the recipe a bit). Went to go see The Drowsy Chaperone at PPAC and it was great. Very entertaining and full of stuff that made me remember why I love theater, especially musical theater. There's the tap number, dancing, tumbling and occasional stunts that can't be blue screened and while some are illusions, most of the time it's the actors. And just the strength needed to dance and sing and make it believable every time - that you don't get take after take - the whole performance should be flawless every time. And then there's the warmth that flows through you when you've got the whole cast (or a few good singers) belting something out onstage. And like the narrator says, it's the fact that musicals can just take you away and make you forget about reality.

Sometimes movies can do that, but in my mind there's just something that will always make me love theater more - and I think it's the live aspect. Also, living in L.A. and learning more and more about the industry, you learn to see things, like wires that don't get composited out in X-men, noticing blue screen and cgi, when stunt people are used, etc. And sometimes, that takes away some of the magic.
