Thoughts: This was the last of the main starbridge series, but there's another trilogy set a bit lateer that I'm going to pick up when I next have some time. You have one spiritual director dealing with two delinquents (okay, conflicted priests) in this one. I think it helps emphasize some key characteristics of the Anglican priesthood that just seem contrary to the way my Roman raised brain works. It also slips in a lot of Anglican theology, which I find useful in my quest. Because this book falls chronologically before book 5, it's a bit odd in parts because you already know the future. But knowing the future doesn't spoil the book. Instead, you wonder just how things have changed and how the characters get to where they are later.
I've really enjoyed the series in general, but it's hard to pick a favorite. I can pick favorite characters in certain books, but since most of the characters recur in at least a minor role, you see different parts of them. Which just serves to illustrate the fact that everyone has problems and that the priesthood in general is not an easy path.
I look forward to her Wonder Worker series, but in the meantime, it's Cornelia Funke's Inkheart (sadly, in English until I get my hands on the original).
