Thoughts: After I finished my African Religions paper, I just had to pick this up as a reward and read it while commuting to work and then stealing time to read when I should have been working on my next paper. What can I say? I love reading about people's spiritual torment? (It makes me feel better about my own?) I really enjoyed this one because of the juxtaposition of violence and reserve in Neville's character and how it shows that sometimes you know very little about people you're close too. Howatch has a system, certainly, and the storylines fall into the same pattern, but it's like the current season of House - you know that it's not lupus, you know if there's a young girl, there might be a pregnancy, and there's bound to be some romantic schmoopiness somewhere - yet you don't know how exactly it'll play out. Same with Howatch. Even when the same spiritual director reappears to deal with the broken down cleric, you don't know what method he'll take.

I am being good and saving the next book for after I turn in my final paper of the fall 2008 semester. (due at some point today)
