Booklog 2008: Books 22-23 of 50
In the mood for some light reading after academia ended, I picked up the Chronicles of Amber. It doesn't hurt that some people on my flist game in it. Finished the first two this past week. Yay for commuting to a job and having time to read.
22. Title:Nine Princes in Amber
Author: Roger Zelazny
Pages: 175
Date Finished: 4.VI.2008
Thoughts: I actually started this while school was still in session and I'm not sure that was the best idea. I definitely like the world, and within the first fifty pages I felt like I'd gotten the gist of the world that I already knew from
tryslora because of the the way she's used trumps/portraits in games. (But I still think of trumps in terms of playing spades in the womb at IMSA) The story grew on me, but I feel this might be a Harry Potter thing - where I really love the possibilities of the world. It's odd because I got turned onto this because of people who do Amber games, so I think I'm looking at it through a different lens.
23. Title:Guns of Avalon
Author: Roger Zelazny
Pages: 223
Date Finished: 6.VI.2008
Thoughts: For me, this moved much faster than the first one, but that might have also been because i had chunks of time where I could just sit down and read. I think it's obvious that this is just part of a larger story - you'd be a bit confused if you haven't read the first book. I like some of the characters that were introduced and the fact that it feels like Zelazny takes you another level deeper into his world with this book. (But I've already got my suspicions about the end of the series). Also, I want his last name. :)
